My word for the year

Challenge is my word for the year. It is a difficult word. After all, did I not just go through a lot of challenges last year. I was still recovering from a TBI relapse. The mister lost his job and was trying to find a different career, which brought some financial challenges. I got published three times. Ok, so that is more of a mental challenge because it is really hard to get the courage to submit for fear of rejection. I met depression and anxiety head on and survived. That really is no small feat. I do not talk about that much here, but seriously, it is a battle sometimes. When depression and anxiety rear their ugly heads together, it takes all of one’s strength to get out of bed some days. I made it. I made it through the shitstorm of 2016. Now it is time to challenge myself some more.
I want to step out of my comfort zone more, and I want to show women that you can be beautiful no matter what size you are. I am doing this continually through my pictures and fashion advice. However, I decided to really step out of my comfort zone this year…I start a burlesque course this month. It goes through the spring. I am very excited and also scared shitless.
The funny thing is that it was actually the Mister who suggested it to me and decided to pay for the course for my birthday. He thought it might help me connect with people of like minds and help me continue to love myself more. (This is the part where you all can melt and be jealous because the Mister is pretty awesome.) In many ways, I feel like I am living my dream. When I was younger, I wanted to perform. I wanted to model, and I wanted to do something with fashion. I took a very roundabout way of getting places, but I am actually achieving my dreams. The only thing that stands in my way is me.
So…this year I challenge myself to let go and let things happen. I challenge myself to learn from the past but not let it determine my future, and I challenge myself to pick myself up when I fall.
