Plus Size Summer Thrifting

The other week, I found this adorable black sundress at a local plus-size thrift store! Yep, you heard me right…an entire thrift store just for plus-sized women called Love Thy Curves! It is amazeballs! I originally was looking for something in a pin-up style, but I could not pass up this cutie! With the weather being a little cooler last week (seriously, Mother Nature make up your mind), I thought it would look great with this kimono I found on the clearance rack at my local Rue 21!
While I did not pair this with a belt, which as you all know by now is my favorite thing to do because it defines my waist and gives an hour glass shape, this would look good with a belt. I love wearing these in the summer because they are shear enough that you don’t overheat, but they cover enough if you are in the air conditioning so that you are not too cold. I got a couple for this summer, and I am surprised at myself I did not do this sooner.
Even if you don’t have a plus-size thrift store, your local thrift store is a good place to get fun pieces and stay on budget. Just make sure you try things on first and know their return policies just in case.
Also, this is a good time of year to hit up your favorite shops for summer clothes too. You got two months left of summer, and a lot of the stores start doing clearance for summer now. You get to look cute af for the rest of the summer at a fraction of the cost. I got the kimono for under $10 and the dress as well.
Do you thrift shop? If so, what are your tips for a fun trip to the thrift store?

CowCow Cupcake Dress Cuteness

Look what came in the mail the other day!!! I was so happy to finally get my newest addition to my CowCow dress collection! This Cupcake Dress is so comfy and just in time for summer!
CowCow dresses are my kryptonite! There are so many patterns from which to choose that I can and have spent hours trying to decide which one I want next. I have several in my closet, and the cap sleeve style is my favorite. This particular dress runs up to a size 3x. I am wearing a 2x. I will buy a 3x if something is out of my size, but it tends to run a bit big on me when I do.
These dresses look great by themselves or with a cardi, especially in the spring or fall. Today I have paired it with a pair of Skecher flats and a belt I found on clearance at Torrid. I tend to buy all my belts there when they are on clearance. I think I have about 20 now. I should probably stop, but they really do have cute belts for my ever-growing dress collection.
CowCow can be found on Amazon, which is where I got this one. A lot of the dresses are Prime shipping. However, this one is not, but it is still free shipping and takes about two weeks to receive from the time of order. Granted, I am impatient, but it still is not that long. The quality is pretty good. A lot of my dresses are still like brand new. They are super stretchy and may be a bit short for a taller person, but they pair great with leggings!
I got a few more dresses in my latest CowCow haul and will be sharing them here in the near future! Most of them are under $20, so if you are in search of a bargain, I highly recommend giving one a try!

Ditch the dark color rule

When you are plus-size, you may hear how you should wear dark colors. “They are slimming,” people say. Well…I say, “Screw that!”
Put some light and fun color into your life!
It is that time of year, where we are just on the cusp of summer, meaning that I start out in a cardi, and I want a tank top by the end of the day. I found these cute boot cut jeans at Torrid on clearance a while back. I always wear darker colors for jeans, but at $15, I could not pass these up! I am glad I did not because these jeans are seriously cute, and I like how they look on me.
Speaking of things I do not usually try, I found the BMO cardigan on clearance at Hot Topic. I almost did not get it, but it is super cute, and I love having something lightweight like this for the beginning of summer. Also, who doesn’t like Adventure Time?
The babydoll tank came from Rue 21. You may have heard they are restructuring. I am so glad that none of my local stores are closing. They have seriously cute clothes! Also, the quality has vastly improved since my teenage years. They have a great selection of plus-size clothing now, up to a size 24 and could seriously be a contender in the plus size market. Also, they have Rue bucks going on now, and well you can use them on pretty much anything during redemption. Let’s just say that I love this store!
I even have a bag to match the ensemble, thanks to Thirty-One Gifts. The “All About the Benjamins” wallet is like the TARDIS of wallets! I own an LG V20 because I tend to use it as a tablet more than a phone. I read on this thing! It is freaking huge! It also fits in this wallet, along with my cards and even my checkbook (and currently crayons. Don’t ask!) It is pretty awesome.
While the tank is a bit of a darker blue, it is a bit out of my usual style because it has white on it, and I am a bit of a mess at times. I love the lighter jeans and the cardigan. It inspired me to get a few more lighter colors for summer. I am even shooting with a lighter colored dress in a few weeks!
My point of all of this today is this: don’t get stuck in a rut of staying within the norms, especially if you are plus size! There are so many fun colors out there, and you will look fabulous!
What is something you have done that is out of the norm with fashion recently? I would love to hear about it! Don’t forget to share and follow my blog for more plus size fashion, beauty, and pin-up adventures!

Fun, Flirty, and Frugal

While out and about last weekend, I saw Torrid had BOGO on clearance. Of course, I had to take a peek! I love it more when it is “Buy 2, Get 1 Free,” but there were still some great deals! I found this awesome top that I would not have normally grabbed. However, I tried on another similar and am in love. It is a bit flowy and covers tummy problems. While I am pretty body confident most days, there are some days where I just feel kinda meh. This is perfect for regular days and those days! I really like the length on this too. It looks great with my capri leggings, also Torrid but last summer. This would also look good with cropped jeans as well.
I finished the look off with a chunky necklace. Then I added my favorite flower. I have a ton of flowers, but I seriously only wear like two of them. I like what I like.
They do have more of this style still on clearance, and I think I saw some updated ones for spring. They are super cute, but I love it better when I can get it on the cheap!
What do you think? Would you wear it like this, or would you pair it differently? Have you scored a great deal lately? If so, what was it?

Comfy and a bit Sporty

While I do like to wear leggings, I don’t really wear joggers or lounge pants. However, Rue 21 had some great deals on them on their clearance pages, so I thought I would snag a few to try.
I am really glad I did! They are soooo comfy, and I used their outfit suggestions, which are available on some of their clothing options. The top is not my usual style either, but it is super comfortable. What do you think of this look? Ignore the fact that my hair is a hot mess!

Top and Lounge Pant by Rue 21 Plus

While I cannot promise this outfit is still in stock, Rue 21 currently has up to 60% off clearance!
Also, I know that you probably heard about how some of their stores are closing. I am kinda bummed, but also happy because none of the ones close to me are closing. Their website has been improving. I am really hoping that this is just a bump in the road for them because I really love their plus line. My Rue 21 has about the same amount of space dedicated to plus as to regular sizes which is a huge deal because several brands that have expanded to plus in recent years either keep their plus size tucked away like a dirty secret, or they make it so you can only get it online.
Do you shop Rue21? If so, what do you like and don’t like? Please feel free to comment below!

Plus Size Barbie Girl

As much as I was very much into Star Wars, He-Man, Thundercats, and other awesome action figures, I also had a big obsession with Barbie. Granted, my Barbies were also some kick-ass warriors for most of my stories, but they did it with style! Needless to say, it is another reason for me to keep checking out my local Torrid…or should I say Torrids because we just got another one here. Seriously, it about made me cry tears of joy because where I live there are two Torrids, two Lane Bryants, and two Rue 21s (in which the one is the largest store they own and about as much space is devoted there to their plus size as all the other sizes). We also haveĀ  Charlotte Russe and Forever 21, but I am not loving F21 so much right now because they basically halved the plus size, and when I go there, it is like they just get in a few pieces, and most of them are just not happening. I also am lucky enough to have some cool plus size consignment stores here too. Honestly, it is a wonder I am not completely broke. It takes a lot of will power…a LOT of will power, but I digress.
So, Torrid has Barbie. Currently I am really trying to tell myself that I do not need this Barbie swimsuit, but really I think I do. It is seriously cute!

Barbie Striped One Piece Swimsuit by Torrid

So far, I have all the sweaters, as well as some dresses and tees. I am kinda sad that I will not be wearing this sweater much anymore as it is supposed to be like 75 this weekend!

I love clothes like this because not only are they a throwback to childhood, but they are just fun pieces. I know some people might find it cheesy, but for me, it is fun to wear.

Sometimes, you just gotta put on a dress

Yesterday, of course, was the first day of Spring. Anyone who knows me knows I loathe Winter. I hate being cold. I love wearing my fun coats and sweaters and such. However, I long to wear my pretty dresses without feeling a draft on my legs.
I decided that the first day of spring meant it was time to break out the fun dresses again. I went with my favorite red polka dot dress. The dress came from a small company that went out of business not too long ago. Also, the company featured me as their Facebook cover girl for a bit. This was after I first started getting involved in the pin up community, so I was super excited.
To be honest, I have been in a bit of a funk lately. Those of you who have followed me for a while know that I try to keep a schedule for posting but sometimes have time lapses. The past few weeks have been fairly regular. However, it comes at a bit of a cost to me as in it tires me out to work for long periods of time. I write here and another place. Plus, I sell leggings and accessories. Then there is the whole matter that I am taking the burlesque course. It is all fun. To be honest, it does not seem like a lot. However, my brain does not always want to cooperate with me. It has been over a year and a half since my brain injury relapse, and I still struggle at times.
That being said, I am not giving up on any of it. I have this determination to get my brain back into shape. I also recently found a new doctor and am slightly optimistic that I might get some answers. In the meantime, I will keep plugging along.
The big thing about wearing one of my favorite dresses yesterday was that it put me in a better mood. Granted, all the compliments that I got while I was out and about rocking my style totally went to my head and puffed up my ego more. (Not really. I seriously don’t have THAT big of an ego. Okay, I think I am hot. However, we all should think that way, dontcha think?) Wearing the dress got me out of my slump too. I woke up in a better mood today and actually got more accomplished. Sometimes, dressing up can be a form of therapy. We need to take good care of ourselves, and what better way than getting dressed up just because we want to do it. So if you find yourself in a funk that seems to not want to go away, maybe it is time to put on a dress, a cute pair of shoes, and get your strut on!

Sweater Weather Fun

I have focused a lot on wearing tunics, dresses, and accessories this winter. However, my favorite part of winter is my ever-expanding sweater collection. I love fun sweaters. Torrid has been my go-to place for sweaters the last several years, and so I thought I would show you some of my favorites today!

Union Jack Sweater by Torrid

This Union Jack Sweater is from last year but still a favorite. I have one similar to it that has a skull instead of a heart. It is super comfy and super warm!
Barbie Sweater by Torrid

OMG! I am in love with Torrid’s Barbie collection. Have you seen the swimsuits yet? I cannot wait until summer to try one out! I got one of the sweaters and a sweatshirt from this collection for this winter. I will say that these sweaters and sweatshirts tend to run a bit small. If you decide to try them out, which for the most part I have only seen these online, I would size up for comfort.
Jack Skellington Sweater by Torrid. Leggings also by Torrid.

This sweater is my absolute favorite as Nightmare before Christmas is an obsession of mine. However, the material scared me a bit because I was really afraid of it snagging. The key to wearing is to wash on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. This sweater also is one that it pays to size up a bit. I actually wore this the other day without a coat while playing in the snow. It is really that warm!
These are just a few of my favorites. They are great with everything…a skirt, leggings, jeans. Dress them up. Dress them down. You cannot go wrong with a fun sweater. Add a scarf, and you are off on a snow bunny adventure.
How do you wear your sweaters? Please feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

Nothing like a Red Cardigan!

In honor of International Women’s Day, I am wearing red today to support the women’s rights movement. The color is to represent revolutionary love and sacrifice.
Today I started out with a bit of pin-up style, but instead of wearing this tee and cardigan by Lane Bryant with my favorite cigarette pant, I paired it with my red plaid leggings by Torrid. I wanted those leggings forever too. However, I did not want to pay full price as I never like to pay full price for anything. I got them for $8 on clearance. The boots are Lane Bryant as well and a pair of favorites! I purchased them four years ago. They still look great!
This outfit contains personal significance as to why I chose to wear it this day. I was planning on wearing red, but I do not as a rule wear a tee like that with leggings. However, something happened yesterday that made me think that maybe I should do this anyways.
Yesterday, I went to the post office dressed in leggings and a baggy tee. I stood in line behind a man who kept turning around to leer at me…specifically my crotch area. Then he would look up at my face to which I would give him the death stare and back down to my crotch again. I did not appreciate the staring. I did not find it flattering. I found his behavior lewd and disgusting. He made me very uncomfortable to the point that I was actually nervous leaving the building, and I cried once I got home. Women do not ask to be treated like pieces of meat by what we wear. For goodness sake, I was wearing a baggy shirt, and my leggings were not skin-tight. It did not give him the right to make me feel uncomfortable.
I wore what I did like I did if only to prove that point to myself. I love this outfit. I am not going to be shamed to not wear it. If some guy thinks it gives him the right to make me feel dirty, that guy needs to check himself.
I hate hearing how women are “asking for it” when they wear something that some guy seems as provocative. No. We are not asking for it. Our bodies are our bodies. Period.I am teaching that to my daughters. I am teaching that to my son. It makes me sad that society still downplays this to a point that men still feel it is okay to be a leering asshole. Growing up, I was always taught we had to have respect for men, if a boy hit me or treated me bad that it meant he liked me, that when a boy touched me in my private parts in gym class that he just did not know any better. He fucking knew better. They all do. I will not be teaching that crap to my kids because I do not want my son to grow up being like that man I met yesterday. I do not want my girls thinking that men can control them or that they need to act or dress a certain way because of men.
I want better for all women.
Have you ever worn something to prove a point? If so, feel free to tell me your story in the comments below.

Mad for Plaid

*may contain affiliate links
Plaid, plaid, plaid! It is all over the place, and I love it! Between my Du North Leggings and my Torrid leggings, I have a nice stash of fabulous plaid for my legs!
Here is one of my favorite outfits from this week, using plaid leggings and a belt from Torrid. I paired it with a skater dress and cardigan from Rue 21. To finish it, I added jewelry from Lane Bryant and boots from there as well! How do you wear plaid?

It’s a plaid, plaid world!
