While I love shopping, I hate crowds. I also used to work retail, so I remember how crazy Black Friday would get. Over the years, I have also discovered that you can find a lot of great Black Friday Deals online, so if you are like me, you really don’t need to leave the house. Wanna learn how to shop Black Friday Deals online like a pro? Well, read on, and I will show you how.

Today’s post is sponsored by Slickdeals in conjunction with Groupon.

Why I Shop Online

One of the biggest reasons I avoid the mall and shopping centers this time of year has a lot to do with anxiety. When I was younger, I worked at an upscale department store for a few years. When I first started, it was right around Black Friday. I remember being so excited about the experience…until I got to work that day. I opened, and there was a line about a football field’s length, just to be first in the door.

That day was long, and I received my first migraine by the end of it. People were grouchy. It got a little weird. I saw a little kid get knocked over for a cashmere sweater. After I quit working retail, I swore I would never never go out on Black Friday ever again. Even after getting married and having kids, I have held true, and well, everyone knows I am a big bargain hunter.

So how do I do it?

The Strategy

If you are shopping for friends and relatives for the holiday season, you always want to have a strategy!

One of the best ways to do this is to make sure you are on your favorite stores’ mailing lists. Last year for example, I saw in a notification from Ulta as to what time their Black Friday deals were dropping, and I set an alarm on my phone as a reminder. I ended up with gifts for friends, my daughter, and some goodies for myself…all from the coziness of my sofa!

Also, make sure you utilize sites like Groupon! Here are some of the best reasons why:

  1. You can use Groupon to save on memberships to Wholesale Clubs you plan to utilize for holiday shopping (or get someone a membership as a gift).
  2. Find discounted gift cards that you can use as gifts or to save money on purchases for that store.
  3. Check there for discounts on name brand merchandise for people on your gift list. You can find anything from electronics to games to computers and even apparel and toys!

You can even check out the Black Friday deals on Groupon now, so that you can be prepared!

In order to stay organized, you can use a note app or make a spreadsheet to organize which online stores have the best deals and when their deals start. Also, if it is a big ticket item you are trying to get, make sure you set an alarm for yourself so that you can get it before it sells out.

In the End though…try not to stress

While I know that when it comes to holiday gift giving, most of us really want to be able to get everything on our loved ones’ lists. However, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. Oftentimes, even if you go to the store for a big ticket item that is marked down just for Black Friday, they don’t usually have many in stock there. You could go through all the stress only to come home empty handed.

I am not saying that people shouldn’t go out on Black Friday. If you enjoy the chaos and the thrill of the hunt, then I hope you have tons of fun! However, I know it isn’t for all of us. For people like me, the thought of it makes me really nervous. So if you are like me, staying home and bargain hunting from the couch can be just as rewarding.

Make sure you have a strategy and if you can’t find everything you want to get, remember, it is the thought that counts!

Good tips and I would suggest using Rakuten (formerly Ebates). I never shop online without it and have received thousands of dollars back thru the years using it!!
