How to Do Date Night at Playhouse Square

datenight at playhouse square pin

Not too long ago, the Mister and I got to check out Playhouse Square up in Cleveland to see the production of “The Humans.” If you haven’t done the theater as a date, it should go on your list, and I am going to tell you why and how to do it.

Prissy and the Mister at Playhouse Square
Obligatory selfie of me and the Mister

So… here’s a little bit on how we ended up doing this in the first place. I got tickets for my birthday to go see “The Humans” from two of my close friends. It was a matinee, which was great because then you can have dinner and extend the date. Our tickets came with a parking garage pass, which is a must when you go because the garages can fill up fast, especially if there are other area events that day. This guarantees you a parking space.
Going to the theater is a chance to get fancy for the sake of getting fancy. When the Mister and I were first dating, he used to put on a suit and do this whole James Bond thing. It sounds soooo cliche, but I LOVED IT! Three kids and several years later, he doesn’t do that so much. I miss it, and I really like to find excuses to both of us dressing up. (Just a note to those of you needing some ideas for intimacy, this definitely can be a turn on and cross over into the bedroom. Just saying.)

Playhouse Square is fairly easy to navigate, and we found where we needed to go in no time. You don’t have to live in New York City to see a Broadway production. You can find many productions that were on Broadway in bigger cities. Check your closest theater’s website to find shows you want to see.
I absolutely loved the architecture of the theater. It added a glamorous and romantic feel to the day. The show was amazing and very relate-able as a millennial.  The Mister summed it up as depressing and humorous at the same time!

After the show, we decided to get something to eat while waiting for the parking garage to empty out. It was practical, and there are many places within walking distance. We found this cute little place called PHuel Cafe. Recently, I found out that I have some food allergies, and it has made dining out difficult. This place was like heaven for me! The food is tasty, not too pricey, and allergy friendly. It was easy to find gluten-free and dairy free options. I even got to have dessert! We definitely will be coming back there over the summer!

Feeling Fabulous at Playhouse Square

This is one of those dates that I will not only remember for a long time to come, but it is also something we want to do again. If you are on a budget and looking to do this, sometimes theaters have cheaper prices for seats that are farther back or special deals on matinees and shows they want to fill. Also, Groupon sometimes features different discounts on shows. Make sure you check out what restaurants are available in the area. This is becoming increasingly important for us as we navigate food allergies. Do you know how frustrating it is to start running down the list of options and having to cross off each one? It is time consuming too. So, check your area, be prepared.
Also just go have fun, relax, live it up, enjoy yourself. This can be a really fun time for you and someone you love or want to get to know better. Also…seriously play up on turn ons! It really takes your date nights to a totally different level!
If you are in the Cleveland area, check out Playhouse Square and Phuel Cafe. I hope you enjoyed my date night for this week, and if you did, be sure to share it and pin it for future use!

Pin up and Mustangs

One of the advantages to doing pin up is the opportunity to shoot with some really beautiful old cars and hot rods! A while back, I got the opportunity to do that with Ivory Rose Photography. Some of the photos ended up in Tantalize Magazine too! Today, I am going to tell you all about what it is like to work outdoors and some of the other issues you may come across while working in a public space.
Prissy Missy Pin Up with Mustang

One of the difficult things about working outside that day was that it was a bit muddy, and the sun was not super cooperative. This particular shoot took place in the fall, and as the time progressed, the angles became more difficult! However, we got plenty of great shots, and working with Ivory Rose is always a pleasure!
While doing this is a lot of fun, the weather can sometimes play a factor on how great something is going to turn out. The sun was a bit of a problem, but Ivory Rose combated it with ease. I did one car shoot sometime back where the camera overheated. It was wretchedly hot that day, and it was probably for the best. We had fun though.
If you are shooting in a public space, be forewarned that you will have people staring. During the shoot where the camera overheated, I actually had a group of kids that followed me around that day like an entourage, completely starstruck. I cannot tell you how much that did for my ego! I loved it. However, not everyone is as nice. After this particular photo shoot, we had a guy who approached us and got a little handsy with one of the models. He was touching her leg while saying he was admiring her tattoo. That is just not cool. If you are in that kind of situation, make sure you are firm with creepers and also try to make yourself known to others for help. For the most part, people are usually great, but in all things, just know your surroundings and be careful.
Modeling with cars is one of my favorite things about pin up modeling. Make sure if you do a shoot at a car show that you try to get permission first before posing and shooting. Also, do not touch someone’s vehicle without permission. That is just a huge no no.
I hope you found these tips helpful, and if so, make sure you share this post and my other posts with your friends! Don’t forget to follow me here and on my social media channels for more fun, tips, stories, and giveaways!

Creating a Pin Up Look For You

Lindy Bop Wiggle Dress and Unique Vintage Blouse
The past few weeks have been absolutely insanely busy for me and my family. We had a conference, followed by dance rehearsals, and an unexpected plumbing issue. Specifically, our main bathroom’s sink sorta exploded leaving a watery mess. Luckily, we have been already working on remodeling that bathroom or it could have been way worse than me losing my precious vintage makeup case to the incident. (I am still a little sad about that but happy that my makeup is still intact.) At any rate, I found myself sorta slacking in the making time for me department.
I figured since we were going to be in an a beautiful old theater that maybe I should look the part. Also, pin up hair, makeup, and style all helps me relax a little and feel more feminine. Plus, I had a little one that was performing for the first time, and I thought if I looked a bit extra, then she could find me in the audience easier. As I am still sorting inventory for my new pinup clothing business, I thought I would see if there was anything that might fit my mood. There was this Lindy Bop wiggle dress. I tried it on with no intention of actually keeping it. However, the girl who stared in the mirror back at me was curvy and gorgeous. How have I missed not seeing how amazing I look in something like this? While I am very body positive, I think I sometimes fail to expand past the usual dress. If you are like this, I encourage you to try something on outside of your comfort zone, damn what social media says!
I found a cute hat. It has two clips inside of it, so it fits on my head without sliding off. It is perfect for the pin up that has hair struggles. Then I finished it off with a blouse from Unique Vintage. I felt sophisticated the whole night. It must have shown because I got so many compliments on it.
When creating a pin up look for you, think of ways to accentuate your curves. While I love flouncy swing dresses, this particular look allowed me to show off my body in a different light. Also, work with your comfort zone and level of expertise. I have been learning how to do my own pin up makeup better. I pay special attention to my eyes and must have about a dozen different red lipsticks. However, hair is not my strong suit. My hair drives me nuts and does not want to work with me. That is where a hat like the one I wore works. I curled my hair and let the hat do the rest.
Lindy Bop Wiggle Dress
Also…don’t forget the shoes. While you should have gorgeous shoes (that will probably hurt like heck) for pin up pageants, I always have a pair of less pageanty shoes for before the pageant or to wear for events where I will be on my feet a bit. As much as I love looking the part, I am miserable if my feet hurt. I found these shoes a while back at a consignment store, and they are my absolute faves!
Creating a pin up look you love should be about your personality and should also be fun. What is your favorite pin up look? Also, if you found this interesting or educational, don’t forget to share!

Torrid Spring Haul and Shopping Tips

Torrid has become somewhat of an addiction over the last eleven years. I remember my first Torrid visit like it was yesterday…I was on vacation in Cleveland (because Cleveland rocks, which is why I am now living close to the CLE now). I walked in and found my home! It was a trendy plus size gal’s dream come true! Granted, I went back to my home near Philly and lamented for several years that the closest one to me there was two hours away, until we finally got one at King of Prussia Mall. Now I am lucky to have two Torrids within 15 minutes of driving distance! It’s a dream come true!
However, I know a lot of my friends get sticker shock when they see some of the pretty dresses and outfits there, so I am going to give you some of my best tips for getting what you want without breaking the bank!

Check their Clearance

One of the things I like about Torrid is their consistent fit. I have a generally good idea what size I will be in their clothes, which means that I can shop online and generally not have to return things. I check their sales a lot, both online and in-store. Sometimes the individual stores themselves have different sales than what is online. This holds true especially for their buy one get two free clearance. Seriously, that is one of their best deals, and I get so many great pieces that way!

Become an Insider

If you want to stay in the know, make sure that you are on their email list and an Insider. Insiders earn points that turn into rewards bucks for your purchases. Their rewards are the only thing that really stack too with Haute Cash and coupons. I pay attention to my emails for when they have flash sales. Their flash sales are the bomb! I usually have a running wishlist of things I want, and then I use these as opportunities to get what I want and also build Haute Cash. Haute Cash can be redeemed a few times a year. You earn $25 for every $50 spent. Then during redemption, you use them on your purchase. The only drawback is that you cannot use Haute Cash on clearance! However, you can score some amazing deals on regular priced merchandise, which is how I got this outfit!

The Outfit

This time around for Torrid Haute Cash, I did not have a lot built up. However, I had a small wish list anyways, so I was not too terribly disappointed. I used the Haute Cash that I had and got this entire outfit! I wanted something that has a bit of the retro feel that I love to wear but was also comfortable for the beginning of summer. I got this cute polka dot challis cami because I love the flowy babydoll look and the retro feel of the polka dots. Then I paired it with their cropped leggings in red. To accessorize, I topped it off with the fisherman’s hat. Then I added their black and white striped Mary Janes to finish the look. Each piece goes together for the whole look, but I can also pair them with other things in my closet for fun as well!

So what do you think? Is it cute, or would you have paired it differently? I hope you found this helpful for the next time you shop at Torrid, and if it was, make sure to share!

Things to Do

Date Night at Tilt Studio

If you have been together as long as the Mister and I have, sometimes the relationship gets stale. It does not mean that it is a bad relationship, but it does mean that you need to sit down and figure out how to put some more zest into it! For me and the Mister, it means the importance of going on dates. Recently, he and I decided to have a fun night out at Tilt Studio in the Eastwood Mall.

Tilt Studio features arcade games, mini-bowling, mini-golf, laser tag, and more! They even have a Tilt O Whirl in the center of it!

The place is perfect for couples that like a little competition! We had a blast playing games and even had some fun racing cars!

Date night should be more than just going to dinner and a movie. This date is creative, and it is good for seasoned couples and also couples that are first starting to date. If you are newly dating, it allows you to show off your fun side, and if conversation is awkward, there is so much else to do. For seasoned couples like us, it is great because we don’t feel ourselves slipping into the pattern of talking about the kids or work. We can focus on us and having fun.
If you don’t live near Tilt Studio, there are also places like Dave and Buster’s that have an adult arcade, which is fun! Just remember to enjoy yourselves!

Boxycharm Box Review

If you are a makeup hoarder like me, you are always on the look out for deals and ways to get the newest looks and best colors and products for the season. This was how I got started on beauty boxes. The Boxycharm box is the newest box to my collection, so I thought I would share my first box details with you, as well as thoughts.
Boxycharm Box Review by Prissy Missy Loves
I love getting beauty boxes. However, they can be pricey, so I am very picky about which ones I choose. Currently, I am only getting two regularly. I narrowed it down to my Sephora box and now this one. I really like this one, and here is why:

The Box

boxycharm april 2018 box
This box runs about $21 a month, less if you subscribe in increments of 3 or 6 months. This is my most expensive box I have done, but it is also one of the most worthwhile. You get 4-5 full size products in each box! The brows and the eye shadow palette saved me a trip to Ulta or Sephora. They aren’t drugstore makeup companies either! (not that there is anything wrong with drugstore makeup, but if I am paying $21 for a box, they better not be.)
colourpop palette
The only thing that made me a little sad was that my palette came with a few scuffs, and the mirror was cracked. Other than that, everything was perfect. Also the shadow colors go perfectly with a lot of my outfits for the summer, especially all my florals. I have been wearing this palette non-stop.

This box is really worth the value. I just got my May box while we were on vacation, so I am getting ready to go through it. I got the three month subscription and plan on continuing it after I get this month’s. You get a lot for the price, and it is all stuff I am going to use anyways.
I hope you found this review helpful. Do you get this box? If so, how do you think it stacks up? Please let me know in the thoughts below.

Changing the face of consignment shopping, Love Thy Curves offers a Plus Size Model

Contains affiliate links
I love shopping! I also love a good bargain, which is why I love consignment stores! However, as a plus size gal, sometimes the plus size selection at many consignment stores is slim pickings. That is why I am so excited to feature Love Thy Curves for this week’s Women-Owned Spotlight!
love thy curves consignment store
Love Thy Curves is a plus size women’s consignment boutique located in Boardman, Ohio. There you can find gently used plus size clothing, accessories, shoes, and more! You can also consign there and earn money for your shopping adventures. Seriously, if you have ever wondered how I can afford the awesome clothing in my closet, this is really how I do it! I recently got to sit down and talk with owner, Patti about how she put together this amazing shop!
While sitting with Patti, she explained that while cleaning her closet at the end of 2014, she found herself with so many things that she wanted to consign but nowhere to take them. It occurred to her that she should start her own consignment store for plus size women. After generating a business plan and finding a space in North Lima, Ohio, she turned that dream into reality.
More fashion from Love Thy Curves
By 2016, she decided to move her business to Boardman, Ohio where it has been ever since. The really unique thing about where her business is now is that the building was originally a China shop built in 1933 and also owned by a woman! It was the first retail store in Boardman. The fact that it was woman-owned is really awesome as the owner of it, Kaletta Cushing, made her business happen in a time when women did not really own businesses or work outside the home. It seems like the perfect place for another woman owned business to prosper!

One of the things Patti loves most is the stories people tell her like when they come to shop for a special occasion…whether it be a celebration or a funeral. Sometimes women just talk, telling stories about their lives. Patti loves the people who come in and share their lives with her. She loves helping them find the right outfit.
For her, it is also a change of pace from her other career as a real estate agent. In this business, she is not competing with others, she is competing with herself which gives her a lot less headaches. As her children are older, she says this gives her purpose and something to do.

Learning more about Patti and her business was an utter delight. Consigning with her is super easy as well. You can find out more about how to consign on her website, and you can also follow her on Facebook and Instagram!

Body Positive Photoshoot with Lumos Photography

A while back, I did a photoshoot with the very talented Cleveland area photographer, Jessica Orzechowski of Lumos Photography. I have admired her work for a while, so I was super excited to create art with her. However, I did not realize how therapeutic it would be.
I have been modeling for five years, and in that time, I did a bathtub shoot, but I did not really show my stretch marks or anything much. It was a beautitful shoot, and it gave me confidence. This one I did with Lumos took those priniciples and went further.

The shot above was not something I planned to do. The Nightmare Before Christmas Cardigan is by Torrid, and the bra and panty set is by Lane Bryant. However, on the spur of the moment, I grabbed the sweater, and we just tried it. I did something that I do not usually do, I put my tummy (stretch marks and all) on display. The image was fabulous. I felt truly gorgeous. I think seeing myself like this was one of those moments to remind myself that every part of me is beautiful.

The next time you see self-doubt lurking, stop. Look in the mirror. Really look. Ask yourself what all your body has done for you. Then love it. Just as it is. Right now. No matter what you do, gain or lose, you have one body and it needs your love and support.

Three daring pieces to wear that should not be daring at all

It is that time of year where the weather is warm, but still unpredictable. I haven’t put my sweaters away just yet, but I am digging out all my pretty sundresses and favorite skirts and tops for summer. Last year, I discovered my love for bodysuits and crop tops. Of course, many people say that plus size people should wear neither. I say, “Screw them. I’m gonna wear what I want.”

All photos by Bellbird Photography. Styling done by Styles by Lucilla

Crop tops have been making a comeback for a while, and many of my favorite places to shop featured them over the fall and winter. They are more versatile than you might first think. You can wear them on their own with a cute pair of jeans. You can put a tunic tank underneath and wear with your favorite leggings or skinny jeans. You can also pair them with cute skirts as well. I love the idea of wearing them with a tutu style skirt personally and cannot wait to try that look later in the summer.
I mentioned bodysuits earlier. I have a small collection of Lindy Bop ones in my closet itching to be worn. I love pairing them with circle skirts for a cute pin up look. I remember when I got my first circle skirt a few years ago and was so frustrated that all the shirts I tried to pair them with looked kinda frumpy. I remember thinking how much nicer it would look if I could just wear a bodysuit instead. It seems the fashion gods must have heard me because I finally started finding some cute ones last summer. They look great with a circle skirt, but they can be cute with a great pair of jeans too!
While I am excited to bring out my crop tops, dresses, skirts, and bodysuits, I am also excited to pair them all with cute hats! I love hats. I seem to pick them up wherever I go. The last time I went to Philly, I picked up a Pikachu hat. When I went to Atlantic City, I found a cute Western hat that I decided I needed to wear at the beach. I love big floppy hats, and I have a hard time resisting the urge to buy one. I have a whole photo shoot with me and a Victorian Style hat that I found while shopping in Jim Thorpe once.  My favorite hats for summer though are big hats. I love wearing big hats and dresses and then walk around like I own the place. I think it is that part of me that is a little bit extra, but I feel like a queen in a big hat. Also, since I am pretty fair-skinned, I like to protect my head, shoulders, and face with them. I have been sunburned once this year already, and it is not even June.
While crop tops, bodysuits, and hats may not sound that daring, so many women shy away from them because of what society says. You wear a fancy hat, and people look at you like you are weird. You wear a bodysuit, and people say, “How Dare you be confident in your skin.” You wear a crop top, and people freak the heck out over exposed skin of a plus sized girl. I get it. It might make you want to shy away from these things. However, I spent so many years trying to fit in and dress the way “I was supposed to” and wear the stuff a fat girl should wear, and you know what? It was not fun. Fashion is fun! Fashion is expression! If you want to try a new trend, you should. I have found that wearing what I want…whether it is so-called “flattering” or not makes me feel good about myself. While I hate the saying YOLO, it is true. You only get one shot at this life. So wear what you want and be what you want. Try a new trend this summer. Rock a new look!
What is your favorite piece to wear for the summer, and how are you getting your summer wardrobe ready? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!

How to have fun with Cosplaying for beginners

Let me just start by saying that I love the art of Cosplay! However, when it comes to sewing skills and costuming…well I kinda stink at it. I know I cannot be the only one that lacks certain skills, so I thought I would give a bit of introduction today on some things I have done in the spirit of cosplay while I continue to work on my costuming skills!

This is my TARDIS dress. It is not handmade, but I really suck at sewing. I wanted to have things to wear to conventions, so this was one of the first dresses I purchased. I am learning to sew, but I am also finding that places like Torrid (where I got this dress) and Hot Topic have some great cosplay starters. Plus, if you keep an eye on sales, you can get them fairly cheap! This dress I did not alter, but if you are finding something pre-made, you can always alter it for the look you are achieving.
For me, this one was about feeling “Sexy.” If you are not a Whovian, you will not get the reference, and I will cry for your soul. This dress is just fun and has a built-in pettiskirt. I feel like a princess when I wear it. I found a headband that lights up, and of course, I have my own sonic screwdriver to complete the look. I also have a little something I can hide, push, and make the sound of the TARDIS. I did an impromptu photo shoot with this one, and I have worn it to a couple cons. I have hopes to add onto it one day, but for now, I pull it out every once in a while when I want to feel pretty and geeky!
Gender Bent Steam Punk Kylo Ren

One of the most important things to remember when cosplaying is to have fun. If you have a small budget, the kind of outfit I am wearing might be the perfect start. If you cannot sew but want to have something nice, this also works. You can always add onto your costume. If you want to make something and be elaborate, that is totally awesome too. Just don’t ever listen to anyone that says the cosplay has to be a certain thing. The beauty about cosplaying is to take something you love and turn it into expressive art you wear! Recently, I have been working on a Steampunk Kylo Ren. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen it this fall. I plan on posting more about it in a future post. Right now, I am working on a Mabel from Gravity Falls. I am hoping to have it ready for Steel City Con in the fall.
Cosplay is fun. Cosplay is art. Cosplay is for everyone! If you cosplay, I would love to hear what you are working on in the comments below, and don’t forget to share!
