Why You Should Shop for Clothes With a Friend
While we often have better selection online with clothes shopping, especially if you are plus size, I still would rather go to a store and try on my clothes before buying. What is even better is when I shop for clothes with a close friend. There is something about having someone who knows you and your style that makes buying clothes so much more easier and fun!
Luckily for me, I get to shop with one of my oldest friends a lot more these days. Since moving back to the midwest, one of my besties and I got to reconnect. She and I actually live less than a mile from each other now. We have been friends for over 20 years, and she still ends up with a lot of my old clothes in her closet…and sometimes I get some of her goods too!
While she and I have very different styles, sometimes it is just nice to shop her closet or shop with her for a different perspective or even a bit of a change in style. I have always been a bit more edgy when it comes to my fashion choices while she stays more on the conservative side. However, when we get together, we make a great style team.
The other week, she and I needed to blow off steam, and one of our favorite local boutiques, Love Thy Curves, was having an outfit contest. She and I both picked fun outfits, and I actually chose some things that I normally would not have chosen. Needless to say, I loved the top so much I bought it. Love Thy Curves is a consignment boutique for plus size, and they carry a wide variety of styles. I found this cute twofer top with infinity scarf from CJ Banks there and fell in love. Honestly, I have never been to a CJ Banks store, and I always assumed they wouldn’t have anything there for me. I think I might have to take a look now as I do like this top A LOT.
We paired our looks with designer purses, and while neither of us bought the purses we chose for the pictures, I did help my friend choose a cute new purse in a bright pink!
Shopping with a friend isn’t just therapeutic though. Shopping with the right friend can save you from an impulse buy or choosing something that you later decide you hate but don’t want to bother taking back so it sits in the back of your closet for the next three years before going to the Salvation Army with the tags still attached. (Yes, that was a really long and run on sentence there). I tend to spend less shopping with a friend and end up loving my choices a lot more. While I have gotten better about it, I sometimes still have the impulse to buy things just because it is on sale. Having a voice of reason saves me from that.
So what do you think of our looks? Also, do you have someone to take shopping? As always, I would love to hear from you! Also, if you want to see more of my thoughts on this, check me out on Instagram where most of the action is!
