The other week, I found this adorable black sundress at a local plus-size thrift store! Yep, you heard me right…an entire thrift store just for plus-sized women called Love Thy Curves! It is amazeballs! I originally was looking for something in a pin-up style, but I could not pass up this cutie! With the weather being a little cooler last week (seriously, Mother Nature make up your mind), I thought it would look great with this kimono I found on the clearance rack at my local Rue 21!
While I did not pair this with a belt, which as you all know by now is my favorite thing to do because it defines my waist and gives an hour glass shape, this would look good with a belt. I love wearing these in the summer because they are shear enough that you don’t overheat, but they cover enough if you are in the air conditioning so that you are not too cold. I got a couple for this summer, and I am surprised at myself I did not do this sooner.
Even if you don’t have a plus-size thrift store, your local thrift store is a good place to get fun pieces and stay on budget. Just make sure you try things on first and know their return policies just in case.
Also, this is a good time of year to hit up your favorite shops for summer clothes too. You got two months left of summer, and a lot of the stores start doing clearance for summer now. You get to look cute af for the rest of the summer at a fraction of the cost. I got the kimono for under $10 and the dress as well.
Do you thrift shop? If so, what are your tips for a fun trip to the thrift store?
When you are plus-size, you may hear how you should wear dark colors. “They are slimming,” people say. Well…I say, “Screw that!”
Put some light and fun color into your life!
It is that time of year, where we are just on the cusp of summer, meaning that I start out in a cardi, and I want a tank top by the end of the day. I found these cute boot cut jeans at Torrid on clearance a while back. I always wear darker colors for jeans, but at $15, I could not pass these up! I am glad I did not because these jeans are seriously cute, and I like how they look on me.
Speaking of things I do not usually try, I found the BMO cardigan on clearance at Hot Topic. I almost did not get it, but it is super cute, and I love having something lightweight like this for the beginning of summer. Also, who doesn’t like Adventure Time?
The babydoll tank came from Rue 21. You may have heard they are restructuring. I am so glad that none of my local stores are closing. They have seriously cute clothes! Also, the quality has vastly improved since my teenage years. They have a great selection of plus-size clothing now, up to a size 24 and could seriously be a contender in the plus size market. Also, they have Rue bucks going on now, and well you can use them on pretty much anything during redemption. Let’s just say that I love this store!
I even have a bag to match the ensemble, thanks to Thirty-One Gifts. The “All About the Benjamins” wallet is like the TARDIS of wallets! I own an LG V20 because I tend to use it as a tablet more than a phone. I read on this thing! It is freaking huge! It also fits in this wallet, along with my cards and even my checkbook (and currently crayons. Don’t ask!) It is pretty awesome.
While the tank is a bit of a darker blue, it is a bit out of my usual style because it has white on it, and I am a bit of a mess at times. I love the lighter jeans and the cardigan. It inspired me to get a few more lighter colors for summer. I am even shooting with a lighter colored dress in a few weeks!
My point of all of this today is this: don’t get stuck in a rut of staying within the norms, especially if you are plus size! There are so many fun colors out there, and you will look fabulous!
What is something you have done that is out of the norm with fashion recently? I would love to hear about it! Don’t forget to share and follow my blog for more plus size fashion, beauty, and pin-up adventures!
While I do like to wear leggings, I don’t really wear joggers or lounge pants. However, Rue 21 had some great deals on them on their clearance pages, so I thought I would snag a few to try.
I am really glad I did! They are soooo comfy, and I used their outfit suggestions, which are available on some of their clothing options. The top is not my usual style either, but it is super comfortable. What do you think of this look? Ignore the fact that my hair is a hot mess!
While I cannot promise this outfit is still in stock, Rue 21 currently has up to 60% off clearance!
Also, I know that you probably heard about how some of their stores are closing. I am kinda bummed, but also happy because none of the ones close to me are closing. Their website has been improving. I am really hoping that this is just a bump in the road for them because I really love their plus line. My Rue 21 has about the same amount of space dedicated to plus as to regular sizes which is a huge deal because several brands that have expanded to plus in recent years either keep their plus size tucked away like a dirty secret, or they make it so you can only get it online.
Do you shop Rue21? If so, what do you like and don’t like? Please feel free to comment below!

Plaid, plaid, plaid! It is all over the place, and I love it! Between my Du North Leggings and my Torrid leggings, I have a nice stash of fabulous plaid for my legs!
Here is one of my favorite outfits from this week, using plaid leggings and a belt from Torrid. I paired it with a skater dress and cardigan from Rue 21. To finish it, I added jewelry from Lane Bryant and boots from there as well! How do you wear plaid?

I have been featuring some of my favorite outfits and to go pieces for a bit and thought it was time to take a moment to talk accessories. I love to accessorize!!! The mister probably thinks I have too much crap, but I don’t care! It is all MINE!!! I purge my closet a few times a year of shoes and clothes. However, I never get rid of jewelry, scarves, purses, and hair stuff. I have things that I have had since high school, and I still use them!
One of my favorite things to do lately is to add a belt…to most everything! This chunky belt shown I got at a thrift store. Never underestimate your local thrift stores! My personal favorites are Plato’s Closet and Clothes Mentor, partly because I love consigning with them and usually get a good amount for it too! Anyways, a nice chunky belt with a tunic can give a nice hourglass shape. If you need ideas on where to start, I really like this one from Simply Be!
I also tend to wear a lot of jewelry and scarves. I seldom leave my house without something around my neck. I like big clunky pieces. I am not sure where I picked the black necklace from my ensemble. I have had it quite a while. You may have even seen it in some of my older pin-up shoots!
However, simple pieces, like this one below are nice because you can wear it dressed up and dressed down! It can also be found at Simply Be
.I like to keep a variety of purses so that I can match outfits from time to time. However, if purses are not your thing, I suggest finding something that is simple that will go with a variety of outfits. It gives you a more polished look.
The point of using accessories is to make your outfit stand out a little more. If you are like me and like to wear the same outfits over and over again, it also makes them look a little different each time, depending on the accessories you use!
The outfit featured:
A top from Rue 21
A purse from Payless
Pants and belt thrifted

Ok, so I am back with more skater dresses. I have been asked by friends about them since I have been posting pics on Instagram with them. The long-sleeved skater dress is my favorite thing to wear this winter. You can wear them with a vest, like I did in my post about the faux fur vest, but you can also pair them with a belt like this:
I got the dress at Rue 21. I have this dress in so many colors and floral patterns because I just fell in love with this dress in the fall! You can dress it up and dress it down however you like! It looks great with leggings, like these candy skull ones from Du North Designs!
Since these dresses are so simplistic, I use the dress as a base and accessorize them with my belts, jewelry, and scarves. The belt is nice since it is a free flowing dress. It defines your waist and gives you shape.
The dresses are available all the way misses to plus. For reference, I wear a XL or a 1X in these. Winter can be cold and drab, but your wardrobe does not have to be!

Ok, this is my favorite look this season, the faux fur vest! This thing is so versatile! You wear it to dress up. You wear it to accessorize! You wear it because it is so soft and warm! It is AMAZING! I snagged a couple of them for the season from Rue 21, which for those of you who are plus size and did not know, Rue 21 has come a long way with their plus size game! I mean this is what my store looks like! The plus size is about the same size as regular! Do you know how happy it makes me to have such a huge selection! (I am looking at you Forever 21!)
Notice how the plus is just all out in front like “Here I am in my awesomeness!” I mean how awesome is this?
Okay, so I am seriously in love! The quality of clothes there has gotten better, and I have been shopping there so much more lately because of it!
So anyways…back to the vests. I invested in two from Rue 21. This is the one I wore today. I also got the dress there too!
I felt like a queen in this. It is super soft. It has little enclosures, so you can wear it open or closed. It was kinda on the warm side since Mother Nature hasn’t gotten herself sorted yet apparently, but I was not too warm in it either, which is a major plus!
Speaking of super soft, my leggings are divine! They are from Du North, a company based in Canada. You can find other super soft leggings in sizes from kids to a 26 here. I am not a fan of jeans, so these are perfect. Not only that, the skater dress look is perfect with them!
This look makes me feel like a queen and was easy on the wallet as well. I hope you are all warm and cozy and that this inspires you to try something new! What is your go-to look this winter?
I don’t know how the boho look crept into my closet. The mister swears I used to hate it. However, it has been showing up in the house decor and in the clothes I wear from time to time. This was a look from last week, and is my favorite!
My whole outfit is almost all Rue 21, from their Plus size section. My local Rue 21 just got a recent makeover, and now the plus-size section is ginormous! I love it! Since there have been a lot of summer sales lately, I scored the skirt on clearance, which was nice. I actually got two for under $10! My vest is from Torrid. I love wearing thin vests like this for a bit of a flowy look.
My shoes, however, I bought online, and I gotta tell you all about them! Have you ever heard of Lindsay Phillips? If not, have a seat! I discovered her shoes about four years ago, and it has been love ever since. Lindsay Phillips carries a line called Switch Flops. Basically, you can change out the swatches on them for different looks. I have a low heal and flip flops. I have a nice collection of swatches I can use on both. I can coordinate my shoes with my outfits without having to buy a pair of shoes for every outfit. It is great for vacation since you can easily pack the swatches in your bag!
The price range on these varies, but they are pretty true to size which makes it easy for me to order online. My flip flops currently have a peace sign swatch, but I also love the Pirate Swatch, otherwise known as the Eleanor Strap.
If you are on a budget, this look is pretty easy on the budget. While you may not be able to find this same look, printed maxi skirts are everywhere right now, and the light ones like these are most likely to be on sale right now. This look flatters most ladies because of the flow of the top and vest. If you are short, you may have to pull up your skirt a bit. I am short, but I love maxi skirts, so it is no big thing for me. Yes, it shows your arms, but seriously, if it is hot outside, I really don’t give a crap what someone thinks of my arms. I know that if you have an issue with a part of your body, it is hard to think outside of that box, but I can tell you that it is better to be comfortable than to cover them up. Not only that, you can detract from your arms by choice of top and accessories.
If you haven’t tried the Switch Flops, seriously check them out and let me know what you think! What is your favorite look for this week? Feel free to share in the comments below!

Last week I decided to challenge myself to dig deep into my closet and wear the things that have been hiding in the back. Mostly, they have been hiding there because I have been afraid to wear them. We all have clothes like that: we buy them because we think they look cute in the store, or maybe it was on sale. Then we take it home and put it far, far away from our sight because we are afraid to wear it but can’t bring ourselves to return it. We have our reasons. Maybe we are afraid it isn’t flattering, or we might get ridiculed. However, I am changing my stance about the back of the closet stuff, if I can’t wear it, I can’t have it!
My first dare challenge was the plaid pencil skirt from Torrid. I bought the skull sweater and plaid skirt combo a few months ago. I tried the combo at the store back in the fall but couldn’t bring myself to purchase it. When I found them both on clearance a few months later, I decided I should try it. However, after I got them home, I put on the sweater and happily wore it everywhere all winter long, but the poor pencil skirt got the closet. Last week, the weather was a bit cool for a few days, so I got them both out and strutted my stuff.
After wearing it the whole day, I decided that it was far too comfy to go to the back of my closet. I looked awesome, and I will be wearing the combo again next time it is chilly!
Next up, is the purple kimono looking top from Lane Bryant. I got this around my birthday and have worn it maybe once before last week. I paired it with capris (which often look like regular length because I am so short. While I was not thrilled with the pairing, I may try this top again with something else that would be more flattering.
For my next piece, I upped the ante and went bold! I decided to wear my tutu skirt. I got this one at Rue 21, but they have really pretty ones at Society+ that come in a variety of colors and lengths. When I bought this skirt back in December, I was so excited. However, I let some trolls trashing other plus size models in them deter me from wearing it. This weekend, I had a girls only day with my daughters, and I decided to wear the skirt. I did not get one negative comments. What I got was a lot of women telling me I rocked, and some little girls who looked at me in awe! I would say that is a success. I want to find a short sleeved crop shirt or perhaps a body suit for next time. However, my tank top did just fine for the other day.
Finally, for date night, I decided to dare myself to wear the most daring, formfitting dress in my closet, a little black dress from Forever 21. I bought this not to long ago but was nervous wearing it. Well, the mister thought I was HOT! He couldn’t keep his hands off me. (I know, you don’t want to know that, but hey, this is my story, so yeah!) I paired this dress with this awesome belt from Torrid. It was amazeballs! All of my flaws were on display. I didn’t care. I felt like a queen!
I am currently going through my closet to get rid of things I know I won’t wear. If you have things in the back of your closet, I dare you to get them out and wear them! If you cannot bring yourself to do that, consign them or donate them. They are taking up valuable closet real estate for something special!
